WATER CONSERVATION TIPS
- Do not use the toilet to flush away tissue or other trash
- Turn off all taps, each drop counts
- Repair dripping faucets by replacing washers
- If you have a pump at home, check your pump periodically. Listen to hear if the pump kicks on and off while water is NOT being used. If it does, you have a leak. Find it and repair it
- Do not use the standpipes to bathe, wash vehicles or rinse clothes
- While showering, remember to turn of the water whilst soaping
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
- When washing the car, use a bucket of soapy water and turn on the hose only for rinsing
- Do not “sweep” walks and driveways with the hose. Use a broom or rake instead
- Collect rainwater to use on your plants and lawn, or to wash your car
- Check water requirements of various models and brands when considering purchasing any new appliances. Some use less water than others
- Fully load your washing machine as a full load uses less water than 2 half-loads
WATER METER TIPS
- Repair all leaks speedily as leaks on your side of the meter affects your consumption
- Check for hidden water leakage such as a leak between the water meter and the house. To check, turn off all indoor and outdoor faucets and water-using appliances. The water meter should be read at 10 to 20 minute intervals. If it continues to run or turn, a leak probably exists and needs to be located
- Keep the area around your meter clear of debris
- Trim trees and shrubs to allow easy access
- Keep outside pets tied and away from the meter or meter entry point
